This splendid Ardakan rug, originating from Persia, embodies the richness and complexity of traditional textile craftsmanship. Its design is dominated by a large central medallion, in shades of dark blue and cream, which stands out elegantly against the main field of an intense carmine red. The corners of the rug, or spandrels, echo the motifs and colors of the medallion, creating visual harmony.
The field is entirely covered with an intricate all-over floral design, featuring sinuous branches, stylized palmettes, and delicate flowers in shades of blue, yellow, and green. The main border, in dark blue, is adorned with a continuous sequence of cartouches and flowers, flanked by thinner secondary borders that emphasize the overall design's complexity.
Crafted with hand-carded wool for the pile and cotton for the warp, this rug boasts a remarkable density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm, a testament to its fineness and durability. The thickness of approximately 1 cm provides a pleasant robustness. The presence of slight color variations, known as "abrash", adds a touch of authenticity and charm, highlighting the natural dyeing process and the uniqueness of each piece.
An Ardakan is more than just a rug; it is a piece of Persian history and culture, capable of enriching any environment with its beauty and unmistakable oriental ambiance.
