This splendid kilim, originating from Afghanistan, is a textile work of art that captivates with its vibrant colors and traditional design. The flat-woven technique, typical of kilims, enhances its lightness and practicality, making it suitable for various settings, from the living room to the bedroom.
Made from hand-carded wool, this kilim features a rich texture and remarkable durability. The cotton warp ensures stability and longevity, essential elements for a rug designed to last. The specified density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm, while characteristic of pile rugs, indicates the fine and compact weave quality of this flat-woven piece. With a thickness of just 0.3 cm, it easily fits under furniture without creating bulk.
The design is distinguished by a large central diamond-shaped medallion, outlined by a lighter border and filled with complex geometric motifs in shades of cream, beige, and light orange. The outer field is dominated by a vibrant orange-terracotta, enriched by a myriad of small rhombuses and traditional symbols arranged in an all-over pattern. The skillful use of color and the possible presence of slight abrash (subtle color variations) lend each piece a unique and authentic character, testifying to artisanal mastery and the use of natural dyes.
This kilim is an excellent choice for those who wish to infuse their home with a sense of history, warmth, and authentic ethnic style, without compromising on the functionality and intrinsic beauty of a handmade rug.
