This authentic Afghan Kilim is a jewel of textile craftsmanship, the result of centuries of tradition and expertise. Made entirely with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, this flatweave rug is a superb example of the Kilim weaving technique, which does not involve the use of knots, but an intricate weave that creates a durable and reversible fabric.
The heart of this Kilim is its captivating geometric design, characterized by an interlocking diamond grid that extends across the entire field. Each diamond is filled with smaller tribal motifs, creating visual depth and fascinating dynamism. The color palette is warm multicolor, a harmony of burnt orange, terracotta, sky blue, olive green, soft pink, and sandy beige, with subtle chromatic variations, known as "abrash", which testify to the use of natural dyes and the uniqueness of each piece.
The borders feature decorative bands with "wolf's teeth" patterns and stripes, elegantly framing the central field, adding further complexity and traditional charm. Its weaving density, indicative of fine craftsmanship, ranges between 160,000 and 200,000 points per square meter (though a flatweave, this metric is often used for overall density reference), and a thickness of just 0.3 cm make it a light yet extremely robust and versatile rug.
Ideal for adding a touch of traditional ethnic style and bohemian flair to any setting, from the living room to the bedroom, this Kilim perfectly complements both modern and classic furnishings. Its durability also makes it suitable for high-traffic areas. It is not just a rug, but a work of art that tells ancient stories and carries the warmth and soul of the Afghan lands.
