This magnificent Kilim, originating from Afghanistan, is a superb example of traditional textile art. Crafted primarily from hand-carded wool, with cotton used for the warp threads, it embodies the rich cultural heritage and artisanal skill of the region.
The rug features a captivating all-over pattern composed of a series of interconnected diamond shapes, each enriched with intricate geometric details. The color palette is an explosion of harmoniously balanced warm and cool tones: vibrant red, sky blue, burnt orange, lavender, and hints of mint green stand out, all against a sandy beige background. The presence of subtle color variations, known as abrash, testifies to the use of natural dyes and the authenticity of the weaving process.
With a density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of only 0.3 cm, this Kilim is a lightweight yet durable flatweave rug, ideal for adding a touch of color and history to any space. It is perfect for living rooms, studies, or as an elegant runner, carrying the echo of ancient nomadic traditions.
