This magnificent Kilim, originating from Afghanistan, is a vibrant expression of ancient textile art. Crafted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it embodies tradition and authenticity. Its flatweave technique, without pile, makes it light and versatile, perfect for adding a touch of color and history to any setting.
The design features a captivating all-over pattern of geometric diamonds arranged in a checkerboard fashion, each filled with intricate motifs and a palette of lively colors. The shades range from orange to blue, green to purple, red to pink, and beige, creating a dynamic visual harmony. The geometric border complements the central motif, elegantly framing the piece. Every wool fiber is imbued with character, showcasing the natural color variations known as "abrash," which lend the rug inimitable depth and uniqueness.
Despite being a Kilim (a flatweave without traditional pile or knots), its compact weaving is comparable in density to knotted rugs, with an estimated value of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm testifying to its robustness. Its thickness of just 0.3 cm makes it an extremely versatile and durable artifact. It is a piece that tells stories of craftsmanship and tradition, bringing a piece of Afghanistan into your home.
