This exquisite Kilim, originating from Afghanistan, is an authentic expression of nomadic textile art. Woven with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it boasts exceptional robustness and durability, while maintaining a light appearance with its 0.3 cm thickness. Its density, ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm, attests to the fineness of its craftsmanship.
The rug features a fascinating geometric design characterized by three large central medallion-like motifs in the shape of rhombuses/octagons, vividly colored in shades of light blue, light green, and yellow, which stand out against the main field of burnt orange/terracotta. Surrounding the medallions and along the sides of the field, a rich array of secondary geometric and stylized floral motifs unfolds, with a color palette that includes mint green, beige, brown, pink, and cream white details, creating a vibrant and harmonious chromatic effect.
The outer border, a delicate sky blue, frames the piece with a stylized zig-zag pattern, contrasting yet complementing the rug's core. The skillful use of abrash, the natural variations in color due to different dye batches, imparts depth and unique character to each piece, making it a living work of art.
This Afghan Kilim is a perfect example of tribal and nomadic style, ideal for those seeking a furnishing element that tells a story and adds warmth and personality to any room. Its flatweave nature makes it versatile, suitable for various living contexts, from modern to rustic, and its multicolor palette makes it easily combinable with different decor solutions. A rug that is not just an object, but a piece of millennial culture and tradition.
