Persian Sarough Rug – Floral Elegance
This textile masterpiece is a magnificent Sarough rug, originating from Persia, renowned for its excellent craftsmanship and the beauty of its designs.
Crafted with hand-carded wool for the pile and a sturdy cotton warp, it ensures durability and an extraordinary softness to the touch. Its knot density, estimated between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm, and a thickness of 1.2, attest to the superior quality of its weaving.
The design is dominated by an elaborate central medallion, enriched with stylized floral motifs in shades of cream and light blue, extending over a vibrant red field. The four corner spandrels elegantly echo the medallion's motif and coloring, creating impeccable visual harmony.
The entire field is adorned with an all-over design of scrolls, palmettes, and flowers, executed with great mastery. The main dark blue border is decorated with an uninterrupted sequence of floral motifs and leaves, flanked by thinner guard borders that complete the composition.
The natural color variations in the red field, known as abrash, add character and an authentic charm, revealing the artisanal nature of the wool dyeing.
