This magnificent example of a Sarough rug, originating from Persia, is a testament to the art and mastery of Persian weavers. Carefully hand-knotted, it features a classic design that captivates with its richness of detail and vibrancy of colors.
The field is dominated by an intense red, almost terracotta, serving as a backdrop to an intricate all-over floral design. Stylized palmettes, lanceolate leaves, and blossoms gracefully intertwine, creating an effect of lush harmony. At its center stands an elegant medallion, defined by dark blue outlines and decorated with stylized motifs and lighter shades of blue and cream, which is echoed by quarter-medallions in the corners of the rug.
The complex, multi-layered border elegantly frames the rug, echoing the dominant colors of deep blue and red. The presence of a slight abrash highlights the handcrafted nature of the piece and the natural dyeing of the wools.
Made with hand-carded wool for the pile and a cotton warp, this Sarough boasts a density of approximately 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 1.2 cm, ensuring durability and a pleasant feel underfoot. A piece of textile history that brings warmth and sophistication to any setting.
