This splendid Persian Ardakan rug embodies the elegance and richness of the region's traditional textile art. Masterfully crafted from hand-carded wool with a cotton warp, it features a remarkable knot density (160,000-200,000 knots/sqm), ensuring durability and a velvety finish.
Design and Colors
The rug is dominated by a vibrant red field, finely adorned with an intricate all-over floral design that includes palmettes, rosettes, and meandering vines. At its center, a large lobed dark blue medallion shines, elegantly bordered and enriched with floral details in shades of cream, light blue, and beige. Four quarter-medallions, mirroring the central one, adorn the corners, creating a harmonious visual balance.
The border consists of multiple distinct bands: a main dark blue stripe with elaborate alternating floral motifs and palmettes, flanked by narrower secondary borders that echo the colors and designs of the field. The use of colors such as ruby red, midnight blue, sky blue, beige, and cream, with subtle color variations (abrash), gives the rug depth and character. With a thickness of approximately 1 cm, it offers a soft feel underfoot.
