This magnificent Persian rug, originating from the renowned region of Ardakan, is a superb example of traditional knotting art. Characterized by meticulous craftsmanship, it features a harmony of colors and an intricate design that make it a valuable and visually impactful furnishing piece.
The central field is dominated by a deep red hue, adorned with an elaborate lozenge-shaped central medallion rich in floral details, which elegantly expands towards the four corners, where we find quarter-medallion motifs. The entire field is finely decorated with an all-over design of stylized palmettes, vines, and floral elements, typical of the classic Persian style. The main border, contrasting with the field, is an elegant dark blue and encloses a succession of cartouches and floral motifs, highlighting the artisanal mastery.
Made with hand-carded wool, the pile offers a soft and durable texture, while the cotton warp ensures stability. Its knot density, ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter, attests to the high quality and longevity of the artifact. The use of natural dyes creates fascinating color variations, known as abrash, which add depth and character to the rug.
An Ardakan is more than just a rug; it is a piece of Persian history and culture, capable of imparting warmth, color, and elegance to any environment, from the most classic to the most contemporary.
