This splendid Afghan Kilim is an authentic masterpiece of textile art, crafted using the ancient flatweave technique. Each Kilim tells a story and is the result of an ancient artisanal tradition passed down through generations. Its Afghan origin guarantees a piece that carries the echo of millennia-old landscapes and cultures.
The Kilim is woven with hand-carded wool, a characteristic that gives the pile a unique texture and exceptional durability. The cotton warp ensures stability and longevity. The mastery of the weaving is revealed in its density; although Kilims are traditionally woven rather than knotted, the density is often referred to with equivalent knot values, here indicated between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter, to describe the compactness of the weave. The thickness of 0.3 cm makes it a lightweight yet robust rug, ideal for a variety of home settings.
The design features a bold and vibrant geometric pattern, typical of tribal Kilims. Large diamond-shaped medallions stand out vertically at the center, framed by an all-over design of smaller, detailed motifs. The color palette is rich and lively, dominated by intense blues, warm reds, bright oranges, and sunny yellows, with touches of green and light blue, and natural shades of white and cream. The presence of abrash (natural color variations due to different dye lots of wool) adds depth and authenticity, making each piece unique.
Perfect for adding a touch of color and an ethnic or bohemian atmosphere to any room, this Kilim is not just a rug, but a cultural expression and a highly visually impactful decorative element. It can be used as a floor rug, wall hanging, or as a distinctive piece in a hallway runner, bringing warmth and character to any space.
