This magnificent kilim, originating from the ancient artisan traditions of Afghanistan, is a vibrant expression of nomadic textile art. Entirely hand-woven with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, each piece embodies the history and mastery of its weavers. The flatweave technique gives this rug exceptional robustness and durability, making it perfect for any setting.
The design is an explosion of lively geometric motifs that unfold in a fascinating all-over pattern. Large central diamonds stand out, enclosing further complex designs, surrounded by a myriad of smaller symbols such as hourglasses, crosses, and triangles. The color palette is dominated by an elegant anthracite grey background, against which brilliant accents of bordeaux red, sky blue, terracotta orange, and cream beige stand out. The subtle color variations, known as abrash, attest to the use of natural dyes and the unique character of each hand-carded wool fiber, adding depth and authenticity.
With a density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of just 0.3 cm, this kilim is lightweight yet incredibly durable. It is an ideal addition to bring warmth, color, and character to any space, from the living room to a hallway, integrating harmoniously into both modern and more traditional decor.
