This magnificent Kilim originating from Afghanistan is a testament to the ancient art of hand weaving. Crafted from hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it boasts exceptional robustness and durability, characteristic of flatweave rugs.
The design features an impressive central medallion of a rhomboidal shape, enriched with concentric geometric motifs that expand outwards. This main element is framed by an elaborate primary border, composed of a series of stylized octagons alternating with zigzag elements and herringbone patterns, creating a strong visual and structural contrast with the central field. A minor inner and outer border completes the composition, adding further depth.
Chromatically, the Kilim is dominated by a vibrant red that frames the pale light blue central field. Within the design, warm shades of orange, mustard yellow, and cream blend harmoniously, creating a dynamic and welcoming visual effect. The manual weaving process may exhibit slight color variations, known as abrash, which enhance its authenticity and artisanal character.
With a density of approximately 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 0.3 cm, this Kilim is not merely a furnishing item but a piece of history and culture, ideal for adding a touch of exoticism and warmth to any room, from the dining area to the living room.
