This fascinating Kilim from Afghanistan is an authentic expression of traditional textile art. Masterfully handcrafted, it features an all-over design that captures attention with its vibrant combination of colors and shapes.
The rug showcases an all-over design composed of large diamond and hexagonal motifs, harmoniously intertwined with smaller, stylized star and diamond shapes. The color palette is an explosion of pastel shades such as sky blue, soft pink, and cream yellow, contrasted with vivid accents of burnt orange, coral red, and intense turquoise. This combination creates an atmosphere of joy and warmth, typical of Kilim rugs.
The Kilim is entirely hand-woven using high-quality hand-carded wool, with a cotton warp, which provides strength and durability. The flatweave technique makes this rug light yet extremely robust, ideal for placement in any environment. The estimated density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 0.3 cm attest to the fineness of the workmanship and its nature as an authentic piece of craftsmanship.
One of the unique features of this Kilim is the abrash, the slight color variations that appear throughout the rug, resulting from the use of slightly different dye batches of wool. Far from being a flaw, this detail gives the rug a unique and authentic character, telling its story and artisanal origin. A textile work of art that will add warmth and personality to any space, be it a modern living room or a more traditional setting.
