This magnificent example of a Shiraz rug hails from Persia, embodying an ancient tradition of nomadic weaving. Crafted with hand-carded wool, featuring a cotton warp, each fiber tells a story of artisanal skill. Its robustness is ensured by a density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 1 cm, providing a feeling of warmth and solidity underfoot.
The design of this Shiraz is an explosion of tribal symbolism. At its center, a series of interconnected geometric medallions, predominantly hexagonal, dominate the scene with their imposing presence in dark blue, outlined by a vibrant red. Scattered around the medallions and within the field are stylized figures of animals and auspicious symbols, typical elements of the textile art of the Qashqai and surrounding tribes. The inner and outer borders echo star motifs and geometric zigzag patterns, characteristic of the region, in shades of blue, red, and cream.
