Persian Sarough - An Artful Masterpiece
This splendid Sarough rug, originating from Persia, is a classic example of hand-knotted excellence. Crafted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it boasts a high density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 1.2 cm, ensuring both softness and durability over time.
The central field, in a vibrant terracotta red, is richly decorated with an intricate all-over design of stylized floral motifs, leaves, and tendrils. Dominant is the magnificent central lozenge medallion, characterized by deep blue and ivory tones, which immediately captures the eye.
The corners of the field feature refined spandrels that echo the colors and details of the medallion. The main border, in navy blue, is also adorned with a succession of floral motifs and palmettes, framed by thinner secondary borders that pick up the red and ivory from the field and medallion. Any slight color variation (abrash) attests to the authenticity and artisanal craftsmanship of this unique piece.
