This authentic Afghan Kilim is a magnificent example of artisanal craftsmanship and vibrant cultural expression. Made with high-quality hand-carded wool and a cotton warp, it features a durable and resistant flatweave. Its density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and thickness of 0.3 cm make it lightweight yet robust.
The bright and natural colors, including red, green, blue, yellow, and pink, create a captivating visual harmony. Subtle variations in shade, a phenomenon known as abrash, can be observed, giving each Kilim a unique and unrepeatable character, a testament to the manual dyeing of the wool.
The Kilim is characterized by a rich and complex geometric design, typical of Afghan tribal art. The central field is divided into horizontal bands hosting large stylized medallions, flanked by small diamonds and abstract motifs. The outer border, dominated by red, is adorned with a series of zig-zag patterns and reversed S-shapes, adding dynamism to the rug.
Each symbol and motif is imbued with meaning, telling stories and beliefs of nomadic peoples. This Kilim is not just a furnishing element, but a piece of history and culture, capable of infusing warmth and personality into any environment, from classic to contemporary.
