This authentic Kilim from Afghanistan is a textile work of art that captures the essence of traditional craftsmanship. Made with hand-carded wool, with a cotton warp, this Kilim rug boasts an estimated density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 0.3 cm, a testament to its fine flatweave construction.
The design is an all-over pattern dominated by large interconnected concentric diamonds, which create a dynamic and harmonious composition. Within these diamonds, smaller geometric motifs alternate, including other diamonds and stylized hooks, adding depth and visual interest. The color palette is extraordinarily vibrant and includes shades of burnt orange, sky blue and teal, aqua green and emerald, combined with beige, dark brown, and hints of red, purple, and yellow. There is an evident abrash, which gives the rug a unique character and an antique charm, resulting from natural variations in the wool's color.
The Kilim's borders are defined by bands with triangle motifs, known as "wolf's teeth," and by thin multicolored stripes that frame the central field. This rug is ideal for anyone wishing to add a touch of color, history, and ethnic warmth to any environment, from the living area to the bedroom, creating a striking visual focal point.
