This magnificent Kilim, originating from Afghanistan, is a superb example of traditional textile art. Crafted from hand-carded wool, it features a cotton warp that ensures its robustness and durability. Its density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 0.3 cm attest to the fineness of its flatweave.
The rug captures attention with its vibrant geometric design, characterized by a central field dotted with large hexagonal medallions. These medallions are filled with complex stylized motifs and are delineated by crisp outlines. The color palette includes a rich dominant red, flanked by tones of beige, sky blue, orange, and soft pink, creating a harmonious and captivating contrast. The abrash effect, typical of handcrafted artifacts, adds depth and character to the fabric, with subtle color variations that tell the story of natural dyeing.
The side and end borders feature a series of decorative bands with small diamond, hexagonal, and triangular motifs, elegantly framing the all-over design. A Kilim rug is not just a furnishing accessory, but a cultural expression and a piece of history that brings warmth and authenticity to any room.
