This splendid example of a Sarough rug, originating from Persia, embodies the elegance and artisanal mastery of traditional Persian carpets. Crafted with exquisite hand-carded wool and a cotton warp, it offers a robust weave and exceptional softness to the touch. Its knot density, estimated between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm, and thickness of 1.2 cm attest to the care and skill in its execution, ensuring a work of art destined to last over time.
The design is characterized by a majestic, complexly shaped central medallion, dominating the intense red field. Stylized floral motifs, with leaves, tendrils, and palmettes, radiate from the medallion and harmoniously fill the entire field, creating an "all-over design" effect that captures the eye. Tones of blue, light blue, and cream in the central medallion and some floral details create a vibrant contrast with the red background.
The rich and complex border elegantly frames the rug. Its motifs echo the designs of the field, with a predominance of dark tones, navy blue, and reds, enhancing the luminosity of the central field. Slight variations in color, known as abrash, can be observed, testifying to the use of natural dyes and the authenticity of entirely manual craftsmanship, giving this piece a unique and inimitable character.
A Sarough is more than just a rug; it is a piece of Persian history and culture, capable of enriching any environment with its imposing presence and timeless sophistication.
