This fascinating rug, likely a Karadja piece from the North-West Persia region, embodies the richness and authenticity of tribal textile art. Characterized by a vibrant chromatic palette and a robust geometric design, it is a work that tells stories of ancient traditions and masterful craftsmanship.
The center of the rug is dominated by a strongly stylized and geometric central medallion, rendered in a deep navy blue, cream, and earthy details, which stands out powerfully against the main field of warm terracotta red. This medallion is surrounded by secondary geometric motifs that extend towards the borders, filling the space with a balanced and powerful rhythm. Details include stylized figures that could recall animal or vegetal elements, typical of tribal repertoire, but always interpreted with an abstract and linear aesthetic.
The borders are composed of a sequence of bands that frame the central field. The main border, also in dark blue, is adorned with stylized "S" motifs or alternating rosettes, flanked by thinner secondary borders that echo cream and red. The presence of abrash (natural color variations due to different dye baths of the wool) adds depth and authentic character to the rug, attesting to the use of natural dyes and artisanal workmanship.
Crafted with high-quality wool for both pile and warp (or cotton warp for greater stability, a common practice), this Karadja rug offers a dense and resistant weave, ideal for daily use. Its robustness and timeless charm make it perfect for adding a touch of warmth and personality to any setting, from classic to contemporary, infusing an atmosphere of history and craftsmanship.
