This splendid Shiraz rug, originating from Persia, embodies the essence of nomadic textile art. Each knot tells a story, woven with hand-carded wool, which gives the rug unique robustness and softness. The cotton warp ensures structural stability.
The design is dominated by a large central lozenge medallion, outlined by a white zigzag border that creates a strong contrast with the dark blue field of the medallion. Inside, stylized tribal motifs follow one another in a fascinating composition. The main field of the rug, a vibrant burgundy red, is densely populated with an infinite number of small geometric motifs and zoomorphic or anthropomorphic stylizations, distributed with a freedom that characterizes nomadic art.
The rich and articulated border features several registers: a thin inner border with geometric details, followed by a wider band with stylized floral and zigzag motifs, and finally an outer border with a repeated "S" pattern. The color variation, or abrash, present in different areas, is a testament to the natural dyeing and artisanal craftsmanship, giving the rug an authentic and vibrant character. With a density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 1 cm, this Shiraz rug is not just a furnishing object, but a piece of history and culture.
