This magnificent Baluch rug hails from the historic regions of Persia, reflecting the art and tradition of nomadic peoples. It is a masterfully hand-knotted piece, embodying the cultural richness and authenticity of these artifacts.
Crafted from hand-carded wool, the pile offers a robust and warm texture, while the cotton warp ensures stability and durability. The knot density, ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter, attests to the quality and complexity of its execution. With a thickness of approximately 0.6 cm, it presents itself as a solid yet versatile rug.
The design is a classic example of the Baluch style: an all-over geometric pattern dominated by a series of large, vertically arranged and interconnected diamond-shaped medallions. These medallions are richly decorated with smaller geometric elements, such as stylized stars and hook motifs. The multiple geometric borders frame the central field with a sequence of stylized crosses and friezes. The main colors are a warm cream for the background, a deep burgundy red, and an intense black for the outlines and details, creating a vibrant and captivating contrast. The occasional presence of abrash adds a touch of authenticity, highlighting the natural color variations of hand-dyed wool.
Perfect for adding a touch of history and warmth to any setting, from the living room to the bedroom, this Baluch rug is a unique piece that encapsulates centuries of history and craftsmanship.
