The Shiraz rug is an authentic expression of Persian knotting art, originating from the Fars region in Persia. These rugs are renowned for their robustness and vibrant tribal designs, often inspired by nature and the daily life of the nomadic Qashqai people inhabiting the area.
Made from high-quality hand-carded wool, knotted on a sturdy cotton warp, this piece features a density of approximately 160,000-200,000 knots per square meter and a thickness of about 1 centimeter, giving it both durability and a pleasant softness to the touch.
The chromatic palette is dominated by a vibrant and deep red that pervades the main field, enriched by profound tones of black and dark blue in the corners and central medallions. Details in beige, cream, and light brown add contrast and definition to the designs. The use of natural dyes and artisanal processing can create slight color variations, known as 'abrash', which testify to the authenticity and unique character of each piece, making it a living and dynamic work of art.
The design features an imposing central diamond-shaped medallion, divided into three interconnected geometric elements, extending along the vertical axis of the rug. This medallion is surrounded by a main red field adorned with a myriad of small scattered tribal motifs, including floral stylizations, animal figures, and protective symbols, arranged in an 'all-over design'. The corners of the rug are filled with large triangular sections of dark color, mirroring the design of the inner medallions. The frame consists of several bands, with the main border showcasing a repeated geometric pattern of stars and lozenges, flanked by thinner secondary borders with serrated and braided elements.
This Shiraz captures the essence of nomadic craftsmanship, bringing warmth, color, and a millennia-old history to any interior. It is ideal for those seeking an authentic piece with a strong visual impact and lasting quality.
