This magnificent Shiraz rug is a textile work of art that embodies the soul and tradition of the Qashqai nomads from the Fars region in Southern Persia. Hand-knotted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it boasts a knot density of 160,000-200,000 per square meter, attesting to robust and durable craftsmanship with a thickness of approximately 1 cm.
The rug features a bold and distinctive design, characterized by a central lozenge medallion in cream and dark brown hues, flanked by smaller, similar elements along the vertical axis. The main field is dominated by an intense ruby red, dotted with countless stylized geometric motifs, often arranged in a dense, all-over pattern that evokes the richness of nature and symbols of tribal life. The four corner spandrels, also geometric and red, stand out against an indigo blue background, creating a captivating visual contrast. The abrash effect is evident, with slight color variations that add depth and character, revealing the use of natural dyes and the uniqueness of each batch of wool.
The vibrant colors – deep red, profound blue, and cream accents – are typical of Shiraz rugs, reflecting the mastery of dyeing and the vibrant aesthetic of these peoples. An outer border adorned with traditional geometric motifs elegantly frames the main field, completing a piece that is much more than just a floor covering: it is a narrative of centuries of history and culture, perfect for adding a touch of warmth and authenticity to any modern or classic setting.
