A Shiraz Rug: The Nomadic Authenticity of Southern Persia
This authentic Shiraz rug originates from the Fars, Qashqai, and Khamseh nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes residing in the mountainous region of the Fars province in Southern Persia. Shiraz rugs are unique works of art, skillfully hand-knotted from hand-spun wool, often with a cotton warp, which gives them inherent robustness and a rich texture.
The design is distinguished by its traditional tribal motifs, often depicting stylized animals, geometric floral patterns, and ancestral symbols that tell stories of daily life and cultural beliefs. The combination of a deep red field with three central hexagonal medallions, densely decorated with minute motifs, creates a fascinating visual contrast. The "abrash" effect, referring to slight color variations due to different batches of wool dyed with natural pigments, adds depth and character, highlighting the rug's authenticity and artisanal craftsmanship.
