This magnificent Persian rug is an authentic example of tribal textile art, likely a Bakhtiari, renowned for its durability and designs rich in symbolism. The central field, in a vibrant burgundy red, is dominated by a large lozenge-shaped medallion, subdivided into smaller sections and bordered by serrated geometric motifs. This complex structure is flanked by dark black corner spandrels, creating a strong visual contrast.
Within the central medallion, in the black corners, and scattered across the red field, numerous stylized motifs of animals – such as horses or goats – human figures, and ancestral geometric symbols are found, arranged in an all-over design that fills the space with life and meaning. The presence of subtle color variations, known as abrash, testifies to the use of natural dyes and the artisanal weaving process, lending the rug a unique and authentic character.
The border consists of several decorative bands. The main band, on a cream background, features a rhythmic sequence of stylized S-motifs, flanked by narrower borders with zigzag patterns and stylized floral designs. The primary colors, which include deep red, profound black, cream, dark blue, ochre, and brown, create a rich and earthy palette typical of these manufactures.
Its artisanal craftsmanship and the richness of its designs make this rug not just a furnishing element, but a functional work of art, capable of adding warmth, character, and history to any environment.
