This magnificent Ardakan rug, originating from Persia, is a textile work of art that embodies centuries of artisanal tradition. Masterfully knotted using hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it boasts a remarkable knot density, ranging from 160,000 to 200,000 knots per square meter, ensuring a durable and resilient surface with a thickness of approximately 1 cm.
The design is a classic example of Persian style, featuring an imposing polychrome central medallion set against a vibrant red field. This medallion is elegantly flanked by coordinating corner spandrels, also richly adorned with stylized floral motifs that extend harmoniously over a dark blue ground. The main field is an explosion of all-over vegetal and floral patterns, arranged with exquisite symmetry, including palmettes, rosettes, and leaves that dance gracefully.
The rich color palette, predominantly intense red and midnight blue, is cleverly balanced by accents of cream, light blue, and green, lending depth and vibrancy to the entire rug. The main border, with its minor bands, frames the whole with a succession of floral and geometric motifs, highlighting the complexity and harmony of the design. This Ardakan is not merely a rug, but a piece of history and culture, capable of imbuing warmth and elegance into any setting.
