This splendid Ardakan rug, originating from Persia, is a magnificent example of traditional knotting art. Crafted from hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it offers a feeling of warmth and exceptional durability. Its density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm testifies to the fineness and complexity of the weaving, while a thickness of 1 cm gives it a solid yet refined presence.
The design is dominated by an elaborate central medallion, with shades of dark blue and light blue, standing out against the main field of intense red. The field is richly decorated with an all-over design of stylized floral motifs: palmettes, leaves, and flowering branches intertwine harmoniously, creating a lush and timeless atmosphere. A subtle yet evident color variation, known as abrash, is visible in some areas, testifying to the artisanal nature of the dyeing and adding depth and character to the rug.
The border, composed of several bands, reiterates and elaborates the floral motifs of the field on a dark blue background, elegantly framing the composition. The main colors – red, dark blue, beige, and light blue – combine to create a captivating visual contrast, making this Ardakan an ideal centerpiece to enrich any environment with its beauty and history.
