This magnificent Sarough rug, originating from Persia, is a sublime expression of traditional knotting art. Crafted with exquisite hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it boasts a high density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of approximately 1.2 cm, imparting both robustness and a velvety softness to the touch.
The design is dominated by a lobed central medallion in luminous ivory, adorned with intricate stylized floral motifs, elegantly standing out against a rich burgundy red field. The corner spandrels echo the shape and color of the medallion, creating a harmonious visual balance. The rest of the field is skillfully decorated with a dense all-over design of palmettes, vines, and leaves, primarily on a deep midnight blue background, with subtle abrash variations testifying to the natural dyeing of the yarns.
