This magnificent Gorawan rug, originating from Persia, is a textile work of art that embodies the rich manufacturing tradition of the region. Expertly hand-knotted, it features a robust structure of hand-carded wool for the pile and a cotton warp, ensuring durability and a soft feel. Its density, ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm, testifies to the high quality of the knotting and the richness of its details.
The design is dominated by a large central geometric medallion, finely outlined and characterized by serrated contours that create a strong visual impact. The field, in a deep red hue, embraces the medallion and the elegant cream-colored spandrels, richly decorated with stylized floral and intricate geometric motifs. Shades of dark blue, almost black, define the main details of the medallion and spandrels, creating a powerful contrast with the vivid red and bright cream. Accents of light blue and ochre/brown further enrich the composition.
The complex and layered border frames the field with a succession of geometric and stylized floral motifs, also in red, dark blue, and cream. The subtle natural color variations of the wool, known as "abrash", add depth and authenticity, revealing the artisanal nature of this piece. With a thickness of approximately 1 cm, this rug is not just a decorative element, but a piece of Persian history, capable of imparting warmth and character to any setting, from classic to contemporary spaces.
