This splendid Ardakan rug, originating from Persia, is a magnificent example of traditional textile art. Crafted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it boasts a knot density ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm, testifying to its exceptional quality and meticulous artisanal workmanship.
The design is dominated by a large and sumptuous diamond-shaped central medallion, which captures attention and expands harmoniously across the vivid red field. The intricate and richly decorated medallion is surrounded by an all-over design of stylized floral motifs, such as palmettes, rosettes, and meandering vines, filling the space with grace and movement.
The color palette is vibrant and sophisticated: the deep red of the field creates a lively contrast with the profound navy blue of the medallion and corner spandrels, embellished with details in cream, light blue, and gold. The presence of subtle color variations, known as abrash, adds depth and character, revealing the artisanal nature of the wool dyeing.
The borders are composed of decorative bands that elegantly frame the rug, echoing the smaller floral motifs and chromatic harmonies of the central field. With a thickness of approximately 1 cm, this Ardakan is not merely a furnishing element but a work of art that infuses warmth and refinement into any environment, carrying with it the echo of ancient Persian traditions.
