This magnificent Ardakan rug, hailing from ancient Persia, is a splendid example of traditional knotting art. Featuring high-quality hand-carded wool and a cotton warp, it offers a knot density ranging from 160,000 to 200,000 knots per square meter and a thickness of approximately 1 cm, ensuring both durability and softness.
The design is dominated by an elaborate central medallion with refined pendants, framed by four corner spandrels that echo the medallion's motif. The main field is a vibrant red, richly adorned with an intricate all-over floral pattern, a classic of Persian style. The outer border, in dark blue, also features stylized floral motifs that add depth and contrast.
The color palette, while rich and complex, is expertly balanced: the lively red of the field harmonizes beautifully with the deep blue of the border and the lighter tones of light blue, beige, and yellow that delineate the floral details and sections of the medallion. Slight color variations, known as abrash, attest to the naturalness of the dyes and the artisanal process, giving the rug a unique character and inimitable authenticity. An Ardakan is much more than just a rug; it is a work of art that carries centuries of history and tradition.
