This magnificent Ardakan rug, originating from the renowned region of Persia, embodies the essence of Persian knotting art. Masterfully crafted using hand-carded wool for the pile and cotton for the warp, it boasts a high knot density, estimated between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter, guaranteeing durability and design finesse. Its approximate thickness of 1 cm contributes to a soft yet robust feel underfoot.
The design is a classic example of a central medallion rug, where a large, sumptuous dark blue medallion, enriched with stylized floral motifs and sky blue and cream accents, dominates the field. This medallion is accompanied by quarter medallions in the corners, echoing its elegance. The field, in a vibrant scarlet red, is a triumph of finely detailed floral patterns, such as palmettes, rosettes, flowering branches, and sinuous leaves, distributed harmoniously in an all-over design around the main medallion.
The rich main border, in a deep midnight blue, features a continuous and flowing floral vine pattern, interspersed with palmettes and cartouches, beautifully framing the rug's core. Complementary minor borders, with delicate garlands and geometric designs, complete the piece, enhancing its complexity and elegance. The presence of a slight abrash (natural color variation) attests to the use of natural dyes and the authenticity of the artisanal crafting process, giving the rug a unique character and extraordinary visual depth.
An Ardakan is a work of art that carries centuries of tradition and refinement, perfect for embellishing any environment with a touch of oriental luxury.
