This magnificent Ardakan rug hails from ancient Persia, the cradle of a thousand-year-old textile tradition. Ardakan rugs are renowned for their excellent quality and the richness of their classic designs, bringing a touch of elegance and history to any setting.
The design is dominated by a majestic ogival central medallion, intricately crafted with complex floral motifs, standing out against a vibrant red field. In the four corners, quarter-medallion spandrels elegantly echo the central design. The entire field is interwoven with an all-over pattern of stylized flowers, palmettes, and swirling tendrils, creating a captivating visual harmony.
The elaborate border, also woven with floral motifs and small rosettes, beautifully frames the rug, accentuating its complexity. The color palette is dominated by the brilliant red of the field and the deep blue of the medallion and border, enriched with details in beige, light blue, and darker tones, creating a striking visual contrast. Hand-carded wool gives the pile a particular softness and sheen, with possible slight color variations, known as abrash, attesting to its artisanal authenticity.
With a high knot density (160,000-200,000 knots/sqm) and a pile height of approximately 1 cm, this Ardakan is not merely a decorative item but a piece of textile history, capable of imbuing any space with warmth and sophistication.
