This sumptuous Ghom silk rug from Persia is a textile work of art of extraordinary beauty and fineness. Its design focuses on an elegant mihrab, or prayer niche, motif, which frames a lush tree of life. The latter is finely detailed with red flowers and polychrome leaves, symbolizing prosperity and immortality.
The main field, decorated with delicate floral and vegetal motifs on a light background, is bordered by bands that echo small stylized floral vases, also rich in detail. The main border features an elaborate succession of palmette motifs and floral cartouches, set against a deep black background that enhances the vibrant colors and complexity of the design.
Made of 100% silk, both pile and warp, it offers unparalleled luster and a silky tactile feel. The exceptional density of 800,000-900,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 0.3 cm attest to the high quality of its craftsmanship, making it a collector's item.
