This magnificent Bidjar runner, originating from Persia, is a superb example of traditional textile art. Known as 'iron carpets' for their exceptional robustness and density, Bidjar rugs are famous for their durability and the quality of their materials.
The design features a series of repeated lobed medallions that run along the length of the runner, each richly decorated with stylized floral motifs and central rosettes. The field is adorned with an all-over pattern of small inflorescences and leaves, filling the space with grace and complexity. The border is elaborate, composed of bands with vegetal and geometric motifs that elegantly frame the central body.
Dominant colors include the deep terracotta red of the field, enlivened by shades of beige and cream in the medallions and details, with accents of dark blue and ochre. The use of hand-carded wool lends the rug a natural sheen and the characteristic color variation known as abrash, which adds depth and authenticity.
Made with high-quality hand-carded wool and a cotton warp, this Bidjar boasts a density of 400,000-450,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 1.4 cm, ensuring a durable and pleasant-to-touch surface. It is a work of art that combines functionality with beauty, perfect for enriching any environment with a touch of Persian history and culture.
