This splendid Bidjar runner originates from the rocky mountains of Western Persia and is a magnificent example of the ancient textile tradition of this region. Renowned for their exceptional robustness and high-quality wool, Bidjar rugs are often called "iron carpets" due to their incredible durability. This runner, with its dense and compact weave, is no exception, offering a wearable work of art destined to last over time.
Crafted from hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, this runner features a classic and balanced design. The main field is adorned with a succession of three large octagonal medallions, each featuring a rich stylized floral and geometric pattern on a dark background, creating a strong visual contrast. These medallions are framed by a light cream-colored field, densely populated with rosette floral motifs and minute geometric patterns, echoing the complexity of Persian gardens.
The predominant colors include warm shades of burnt terracotta and rust red in the outer bands and corners of the runner, which beautifully contrast with the deep dark blue of the medallions and the bright cream of the field. Accents of olive green, brown, and ochre enrich the palette, creating a vibrant chromatic harmony. The borders, richly decorated with stylized motifs, complete the design. The density of approximately 400,000-450,000 knots/sqm attests to the meticulous craftsmanship, while the thickness of 1.4 cm ensures a pleasant feel underfoot and excellent wear resistance. It may exhibit a slight abrash, typical of natural dyeing and artisanal wool, which adds character and authenticity.
