This magnificent Bidjar rug, originating from Persia, is a superb example of the ancient textile tradition of this region. Renowned for their exceptional durability and robust structure, Bidjar rugs are often referred to as "iron rugs".
Crafted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, this piece features a density of approximately 400,000-450,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 1.4 cm, attesting to its high quality and resilience. The careful selection of materials and knotting technique ensures a product built to last, enriching any environment with its timeless charm.
The design is characterized by three large geometric hexagonal medallions, placed in succession along the field of the runner. These medallions, in warm shades of terracotta red and burgundy, stand out beautifully against the cream/ivory background. The field is richly decorated with a myriad of geometric and stylized floral motifs, typical of the Persian tribal repertoire. The well-defined borders enclose the entire composition with elegance.
The vibrant, earthy colors, with the undeniable presence of red, cream, and dark brown accents, are derived from natural dyes, giving the pile a vibrant appearance and, sometimes, a delicate abrash effect, a hallmark of authentic handmade rugs. This Bidjar runner is not just a furnishing accessory but a piece of Persian history and culture, capable of imbuing warmth and character into any space.
