This splendid Gholtugh rug hails from the renowned weaving traditions of Persia, an area celebrated for its rich history in carpet production. It is a textile work of art that embodies the authentic tribal spirit and Persian craftsmanship.
Made with hand-carded wool for the pile and a sturdy cotton warp, this rug stands out for its exceptional durability and soft feel. The knot density, estimated between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm, and the thickness of 1.2 cm attest to its meticulous workmanship and resilience.
The design features a magnificent polygonal central medallion, dominant on the rich, deep red field. The medallion is adorned with stylized floral and geometric motifs in shades of cream, blue, and orange. The surrounding field is an all-over design, densely decorated with a myriad of stylized botanical motifs and abstract forms, typical of nomadic art. The multi-layered border, in shades of dark blue and red, elegantly frames the rug, completing its chromatic and stylistic harmony. Subtle color variations, known as "abrash," can be observed, adding depth and unique character to this handcrafted piece.
A Gholtugh like this is not just a furnishing element, but a piece of Persian history and culture, capable of enriching any environment with its timeless beauty and silent narrative.
