This magnificent Ardakan rug embodies the rich tradition of Persian knotting, originating from the ancient region of Persia. Its design, an elaborate central medallion, serves as a focal point that draws the eye and radiates symmetry and harmony. The main field is dominated by a vibrant shade of terra cotta red, enriched with an all-over design of delicate flowering branches, palmettes, and arabesques that gracefully extend across the entire surface.
The spandrels, or corners, as well as the broad main border, are characterized by a deep dark blue, offering a striking and well-defined visual contrast. Within these blue sections, a complex series of floral and vegetal motifs unfolds in shades of cream, light blue, and ocher, creating an effect of depth and decorative richness. The secondary borders delicately frame the rug, repeating stylized motifs that complete the ensemble.
Crafted with hand-carded wool for the pile and a sturdy cotton warp, this Ardakan rug boasts a remarkable knotting density, ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter. This high density contributes to the clarity of the design details and the rug's durability. The approximate 1 cm thickness ensures comfortable underfoot feel and good wear resistance, making it a functional work of art suitable for enhancing any interior with a touch of Oriental luxury.
The use of natural or vegetable dyes imparts a depth and slight variation (abrash) to the colors, adding character and authenticity, testifying to the artisanal mastery employed in its creation. An Ardakan rug is more than just a floor covering; it is a piece of history and culture, capable of transforming the ambiance of a room with its majestic presence and timeless appeal.
