Afghan Kilim: A Textile Work of Art

This magnificent Kilim of Afghan origin is a superb example of traditional craftsmanship, expertly woven using hand-carded wool and a cotton warp, which gives the rug exceptional robustness and durability. The rug features a weaving density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 0.3 cm, characteristics that attest to its fine workmanship and flatweave technique.

The design is characterized by a large central diamond motif in light orange and pink tones, surrounded by a turquoise frame that expands into a series of diamonds and small stylized floral shapes. The main field is dominated by a palette of light blue and light grey, with subtle color variations, known as abrash, adding depth and character. Vibrant details in red, yellow, soft pink, and blue stand out, creating a harmonious contrast and a vibrant atmosphere.
