This magnificent original Kilim from Afghanistan captures the essence of nomadic craftsmanship with its vibrant colors and distinctive pattern. Made with hand-carded wool for the warp and weft, and a cotton warp, it offers a robust texture and an authentic aesthetic. Its flat weave and a density of approximately 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm, although a Kilim (flat-woven, not knotted), indicate the fineness of the workmanship and the compactness of the fabric. With a thickness of just 0.3 cm, it is lightweight and versatile.
The Kilim showcases a captivating color palette dominated by bright orange, soft pink, and sunny yellow, enriched with cream accents that create a pleasing contrast. The slight color variations, known as abrash, are intrinsic to the natural dyeing of the wool and add depth and character, making each piece unique.
Its all-over pattern features complex and symbolic geometric motifs, typical of Afghan tribal art. These designs are harmoniously repeated across the entire surface, delimited by a thin border that enhances its composition. The ethnic and traditional aesthetic of this Kilim makes it a perfect textile artwork to add warmth and personality to any room, from the living room to the bedroom, or even as an elegant hallway runner.
