This splendid Kilim, originating from Afghanistan, is a magnificent example of traditional textile art. Crafted from high-quality hand-carded wool, it features a distinctive flatweave that enhances the material's softness and durability. The cotton warp contributes to its structural stability, ensuring a long lifespan.
The rug showcases a central geometric diamond pattern, a traditional Afghan motif that extends all-over, creating a harmonious and dynamic visual effect. The color palette includes warm, natural tones such as terracotta, beige, cream, muted red, soft turquoise, and grayish lavender. The presence of abrash (slight color variations) gives the Kilim an authentic character and unique artisanal charm, testifying to the beauty of natural dyes and handcraftsmanship.
The border, rich with repeated geometric motifs, elegantly frames the central field, adding depth to the overall design. With a weave density estimated between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm (technical data provided, although Kilims are flatweaves), and a thickness of just 0.3 cm, this Kilim is not only a captivating decoration but also a robust and versatile piece, perfect for enriching any space with a touch of exoticism and history.
