This magnificent Afghan Kilim is a superb example of the ancient textile art of the region. Originating from Afghanistan, it is skillfully woven using hand-carded wool, with a cotton warp, ensuring durability and a unique tactile feel. The density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 0.3 cm attest to the quality and robustness of this piece.
Its geometric design is the visual focal point, characterized by a series of large, interconnected central diamonds, outlined by serrated motifs in dominant red and blue colors. These diamonds are filled with smaller, intricate patterns, adding depth and visual interest. The main field features a soft palette of beige, enriched with shades of light blue, green, and salmon pink, creating a balanced and harmonious effect. The entire composition is framed by an elegant red border with zigzag patterns, enhancing its structure and visual impact.
The artisanal craftsmanship is also evident in the subtle color variations, a phenomenon known as 'abrash', which adds character and authenticity, telling the story of natural dyeing and the artist's hand. This Kilim is not just a rug, but a piece of history and culture, capable of infusing warmth and personality into any interior, from the most classic to the most contemporary.
