This magnificent Nain Kashmar rug is an authentic example of Persian craftsmanship, originating from the renowned region of Kashmar. Each individual knot has been meticulously hand-tied, bearing witness to a centuries-old tradition in creating luxury carpets.
Hand-knotted with a combination of hand-carded wool and silk on a cotton warp, the rug boasts a natural luster and unparalleled softness. The presence of silk enhances the design details, giving the pile a silky sheen that changes with the light's incidence. Its high density of 160,000-200,000 knots per square meter and a thickness of approximately 1.3 cm ensure superior resistance and durability, as well as a luxurious feel underfoot.
The rug features a refined central medallion design, iconic of the Persian style. The main field is dominated by an elegant cream hue, providing a backdrop for an intricate blue medallion. This medallion is surrounded by an explosion of stylized floral motifs, arabesques, and palmettes, which extend harmoniously across the entire field. The color palette, including shades of blue and accents of burgundy red, creates a sophisticated and captivating contrast. The elaborate borders, composed of ornate bands with repeated floral patterns, beautifully frame the central design, adding depth and character to the piece.
The use of natural yarns and hand-knotting can sometimes create slight color variations, known as "abrash," which are not defects but rather a testament to the authenticity and uniqueness of each rug. This Nain Kashmar is more than just a decorative item; it is a work of art that imbues warmth, history, and a touch of Persian opulence into any environment.
