This magnificent Nadjafabad rug, originating from Persia, embodies the elegance and richness of traditional textile art. Its design is dominated by a large, splendid central medallion, finely adorned with stylized floral motifs, set against a vibrant red field. This field is skillfully filled with an intricate all-over design of floral arabesques, palmettes, and vine leaves, gracefully extending towards the four corners, which feature elegant spandrels.
The main border, in a deep navy blue, showcases a rhythmic sequence of cartouches and blossoms, framed by two thinner secondary borders with meander patterns. The chromatic harmony between the warm red of the field, the intense blue of the borders, and the cream and light blue accents in the floral details creates an atmosphere of refined opulence. Every single knot bears witness to the mastery of Persian artisans, and any subtle color variations (abrash) further enhance the authenticity and character of this piece.
