This magnificent Afghan Kilim is a superb example of the ancient art of hand-weaving, distinguished by its vibrancy and intricate patterns. Originating from Afghanistan, each piece is a testament to artisanal mastery and a rich cultural tradition rooted in centuries.
The main motif is characterized by three large central octagonal medallions, richly decorated with geometric designs and wolf-tooth patterns, which stand out vividly against the dark background. The color palette is extraordinarily rich and vibrant, with shades of red, sky blue, dark blue, yellow, orange, green, and cream, creating a fascinating contrast with the main dark black/brown field.
The medallions are framed by a series of concentric borders, also rich in geometric details, and the entire field is then enriched by an all-over design composed of small multicolored squares and stylized spirals, adding depth and dynamism to the rug. Made from high-quality hand-carded wool (with cotton warp), this Kilim is not only beautiful to look at but also sturdy and durable.
Its density of approximately 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 0.3 cm make it ideal for adding warmth, color, and character to any room, from a modern living room to a more traditional study. The surface may feature a slight color variation, known as abrash, which gives an authentic and unique charm to each piece, telling the story of its creation.
