This magnificent Ardabil rug, originating from Persia, is a textile work of art that embodies the rich tradition of hand-knotting. Known for their exquisite craftsmanship and complex designs, Ardabil rugs are among the most prized in the Persian repertoire.
The rug features a splendid polychrome central medallion, finely detailed with stylized floral motifs and palmettes, standing out against a deep indigo/purple field. The field is adorned with a dense all-over pattern of small repeated motifs, perhaps boteh or rosettes, creating a captivating visual harmony. At the corners, quarter-medallions echo the motifs and colors of the central section, elegantly framing the main design.
The color palette is rich and vibrant, dominated by shades of red (maroon, terracotta), gold/beige, and accents of blue/teal, in addition to the deep indigo of the background. The multi-layered borders include a wide main border with a continuous pattern of floral vines and palmettes on a red background, flanked by narrower guard borders with geometric and stylized designs, completing the composition gracefully. The craftsmanship is evident in the attention to detail and the slight color variation, or abrash, which adds character and depth.
Crafted from high-quality hand-carded wool with a cotton warp, this rug boasts a density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm, a testament to its exceptional craftsmanship and durability. With a thickness of approximately 1 cm, it offers a luxurious and comfortable feel underfoot. A piece of Persian history and artistry, perfect for enhancing any space with its timeless beauty.
