This magnificent Shirvan rug transports us directly into the rich textile traditions of the Caucasus. Characterized by a vibrant chromatic palette and an intricate geometric composition, it represents an excellent example of nomadic craftsmanship.
The main field, a deep terracotta red with slight abrash variations, hosts an imposing diamond-shaped central medallion, outlined in dark blue and decorated with stylized motifs. Around the medallion, the all-over design is composed of a myriad of rhombuses, octagons, and stylized figures, arranged with a harmony that reflects the weaver's skill.
The borders are equally elaborate, with narrow bands framing the central field and a main border featuring a succession of "S" motifs or stylized floral elements on a light cream background, interspersed with zigzag elements in blue.
